What this site is
GravityBench provides homebrewing calculators (ABV, IBU, priming sugar, dilution and blending, strike water, and SRM colour) and reference information about hops, malts, yeast strains, water profiles and beer/cider/mead style guidelines. It is an independent, hobbyist-facing reference site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any yeast laboratory, maltster, hop grower, or the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP); brand and product names appearing on this site are used descriptively to identify real commercial products and remain the property of their respective owners.
Age restriction
This site's subject matter concerns homebrewing beer, cider and mead — beverages restricted to adults of legal drinking age in virtually every jurisdiction. By using this site, you represent that you are of legal drinking age in your jurisdiction, or that you are accessing informational content only under adult supervision where applicable local law permits. Homebrewing itself is subject to local, state/provincial and national regulation that varies significantly by location — it is your responsibility to confirm that homebrewing is legal in your jurisdiction and to comply with any applicable limits (on volume produced, licensing, or otherwise) before starting a batch.
The calculators and reference data are estimates, not guarantees
Every formula on this site is a published, widely-used homebrewing calculation, and every reference figure (hop alpha acid, malt colour, yeast attenuation, style guideline range, water mineral content) is sourced from published grower, maltster, yeast-lab or style-guideline references, as stated on the relevant page. Despite that sourcing:
- Real ingredients vary by crop year, production lot and manufacturer, and the figures here are typical ranges, not a certificate of analysis for the specific ingredient in front of you.
- The calculators compute an estimate from the inputs you provide. If your inputs are inaccurate (a miscalibrated hydrometer, an unlevel scale, an estimated rather than measured temperature), the output will be inaccurate in the same proportion.
- Different published formulas (for example, the Tinseth and Rager IBU formulas) can legitimately disagree with each other on the same inputs — the site shows this disagreement rather than resolving it, and neither is universally "more correct."
You are solely responsible for verifying any figure that matters to a batch you're actually brewing, and for exercising ordinary care and judgment in your own brewing process — including the specific safety guidance given about over-carbonation risk on the priming sugar calculator, which exists because miscalculated bottle carbonation is a genuine glass-safety hazard, not just a taste issue.

This site and its calculators, reference data and content are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, GravityBench and its operator disclaim all liability for any loss, damage, spoiled batch, or injury arising from use of, or reliance on, this site's calculators, reference data or other content.
Purchases
The Brew Day Pack and any other paid product offered on this site are sold as described on their respective product pages, at the price listed at time of purchase, processed through Stripe. Purchases are for personal, non-commercial use; the product's content may not be redistributed or resold. If you believe a purchase was made in error or the product materially differs from its description, contact contact@gravitybench.com.
Donations
Donations made through the "Support Us" page are voluntary and non-refundable, and do not entitle the donor to any product, service, or ownership interest in the site.
Intellectual property
The text, design, calculator interfaces and original reference content on this site are the property of GravityBench and may not be reproduced or republished without permission, except for reasonable quotation with attribution. Underlying scientific/technical formulas (Tinseth, Rager, the Morey SRM equation, and similar) are public, widely-published methods and are not proprietary to this site.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time; the "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws applicable to the jurisdiction in which GravityBench's operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, to the extent permitted by applicable local law.
