GravityBench is a homebrewing calculation and reference site built around one idea: a brewer should be able to see the formula behind a number, not just the number itself.
Every calculator on this site is built on a single, unit-tested calculation library. The ABV calculator, the IBU calculator, and the four other tools all draw from the same functions — there is no second, hand-typed copy of the maths sitting in a spreadsheet or a blog post that could quietly drift out of sync with what the interactive tools actually compute. Every worked example quoted anywhere on the site, in a tool's own explainer text or in a blog post, is checked automatically against the live calculation core, so a stated example can't silently go stale as the underlying formulas are refined.
The reference layer — hops, malts, yeast strains, style guidelines and water profiles — follows a two-tier approach. A smaller set of the most commonly used entries (well-known hop varieties like Citra and Cascade, base malts like Pilsner and Munich, widely-used yeast strains like US-05) get full write-ups covering their history, character and typical use. The larger remainder get a structured specification table plus a short, factual paragraph — real information, without padding a page out to hit an arbitrary word count. Every figure in both tiers states its source: published grower and merchant variety guides for hops, maltster spec sheets for malts, manufacturer product data sheets for yeast, and the BJCP 2021 Style Guidelines (approximately, not verbatim) for style ranges.
This site is about measurement and process, not about how much to drink or how strong a beer can be pushed. Homebrewing, and the beverages it produces, are intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction — check your local regulations on homebrewing before starting a batch.

We keep the site free of clutter deliberately: no account required to use any calculator, no forced sign-up before you can see a result, and no dark patterns nudging a donation.
